About us

The DMV Community Doula Project was founded by a group of local perinatal professionals and stakeholders who recognize the urgent need for accessible, compassionate, and high quality doula services in underserved communities.

We are expanding the workforce of doulas to improve maternal and infant health outcomes for Medicaid members and create professional pathways that minimize barriers towards certification and career sustainability.

We recognize that community doulas face unique professional and social challenges and are committed to adapting our organization to meet their needs. By providing support and resources to community doulas, we aim to create a sustainable and thriving doula workforce that can serve all pregnant Medicaid members.

At DMV CDP collaboration is key and through our relationships with local maternal health organizations and doula agencies throughout the DC metro region, we are developing referral systems for Medicaid members to receive doula services.

Maternal health is impacted by all care team members, including doulas, doctors, midwives, nurses, family members, and other care providers. We believe in collaborative care to create a supportive experience for women and families.

As doulas and perinatal care providers, we come together from and for the community to create and sustain systems that support families throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

Our mission is to implement systems that improve maternal health and to ensure sustainable and equitable community based doula services.
